The Long Term Benefits Of Meditation

If you have recently begun your journey to meditative bliss, then you have probably already found out about some of the long term benefits of meditation from first hand experience. By taking as little as half an hour each day to sit down, relax your body and harmonize your spirit and physical form, you should have already noticed a sense of inner calm and tranquility, as well as a clarity of thought and judgement begin to develop in you. If you have not yet had so much success with meditation, the advice which most people who practice it would give you would be to make sure you do not give up, or give in to frustration. There is no doubt that trying to meditate and failing to reach a state of stillness and bliss can indeed be incredibly frustrating and disheartening, but you have to learn to accept that it is all part of a long process which will bring you enormous rewards in the future, and is even bringing you rewards now – even if you feel you are failing. The fact is, even by simply making an effort to set some time aside to meditate, you are still giving your body and mind a rest of sorts, and even if you are not experiencing what you feel you should be, you are still doing yourself a lot of good by trying. It is important to keep in mind that meditation for most people is not something which necessarily comes easily, or quickly.

You can do it

However, there is no reason why anybody on earth would not be able to meditate eventually – even though there are many reasons why it isn’t always easy to do so. Just take a moment to think about all the different thoughts you have to process each day, how much stress the world and this society puts you through. Most of us have to make a whole range of important decisions every day, and have many worries connecting to money, family, love and work which create a difficult mental atmosphere which often blocks our ability to meditate. All of these things can and will be overcome with regular practice, experimentation of different techniques and employment of different methods and tools. Indeed, many people are taking full advantage of some of the tools given to us by the modern world in the form of meditative music – a great way to overcome distractions and allow yourself to be coaxed into a sense of deep calm and tranquility (check Omharmonics.com to download a free meditation music track).

Why you must never give up

Of course, the main reason why everybody should persevere with meditation is due to the fact that it is incredibly good for you. Over time, people who have practiced meditation for many years are generally far happier than people who haven’t. Why? Because they have learned the transitory and illusory nature of our problems and stresses, that all of life’s difficulties can be washed away, and all problems can be accepted and dealt with. Meditation teaches us that we have access to an infinite pool of tranquility within us, and that we are free to calm ourselves and think positively – and that by acting calmly and positively, the world around us will respond in the same way. Of course, we all face disappointment in our lives, but with meditation, we can learn to accept this as inevitable, and not let ourselves dwell in it or suffer from it, rather pick ourselves up and move on. With the help of meditation, stress related illnesses and psychic and physical problems cannot touch us, and thus we can become healthier, happier and better individuals.
