HEALING GUM DISEASE NATURALLY

So many adults develop gum disease, but it can be avoided altogether if you know a little about the condition. Far too many people are ignorant about both the real importance of looking after your gum health and what steps to take to protect it.

Gum disease, which is also known as gingivitis or periodontitis, depending on the degree of the condition, occurs when the gums, the gum tissue and possibly the jaw bone become infected and inflamed. Both gingivitis and periodontitis start out as plaque on the teeth. Plaque is a sticky substance that coats the teeth and is formed when bacteria mix with saliva. Plaque can be, and should be, removed after each meal. If it is left to build up, then it becomes tartar, which can only be removed by a dentist.

Gingivitis is the milder version of gum disease. It is typically categorized by constant bad breath and inflamed and red gums that may bleed when you brush your teeth. Periodontitis may lead to swelling, receding gums, continual bad breath, intense pain and even the loss of teeth.

If you recognize any of the above symptoms, then you need to visit your dentist for professional advice as soon as possible. The good news is that when you catch the condition early, you can often reverse the condition easily without invasive dental procedures.

Hints For Healing Gum Disease Naturally

  • Follow a good oral health routine

When you develop gum disease, you need to totally rethink your commitment to your oral health. To get rid of gum disease, you have to brush after each meal, floss and use a mouthwash. This is one of the most effective ways to eradicate the bacteria that cause the condition.

  • Get your recommended daily intake of vitamins

There are certain vitamins that are particularly important for protecting your teeth and gums. Among them are vitamins C, D and E. Vitamin C is a powerful anti-oxidant that is able to regenerate the gum tissue and fight bacterial infection. Vitamins D and E are also very good for protecting teeth and gum health. You can get vitamin D from oily fish and from sunlight; vitamin E is obtained from spinach, seeds and nuts.

You can consume vitamin C by eating fruits such as grapefruit, orange, mango, and strawberry.  You can also have it in supplement form, but do not go for the chewable ones. Vitamin D can be obtained by exposure to sunlight. It is recommended that, if possible, you should have constant sun exposure for about 15 minutes twice a week.

  • Tea Tree Oil

This native Australian oil is a potent antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-fungal that is ideal for use on teeth and gums. There are now natural products containing tea tree oil that you can purchase and use at home.
