“Man is like a banana: when he leaves the bunch, he gets skinned.” – Proverb
We may have a lot of jokes related to bananas, but this fruit is actually a life saver and joy bringer. Bananas have an endless list of banana health benefits and medicinal uses of which I will share a top 5 with you in this post.
Quit Smoking? Eat Bananas!
Bananas have high levels of magnesium, Vitamins A, B6, B12 and ofcourse Vit C that help you recover from nicotine withdrawal effects. Other than that, they easily ‘fill’ you when you’re feeling empty (another smoking withdrawal effect).
Reduce Stress? Have a yellow friend!
Bananas contain a mineral called potassium. It helps to regulate the heart beat and metabolic rate.
When you’re under pressure, metabolic rates increase, reducing our level of potassium. Counter it by eating a banana.
Too Hot? Stay Cool By Eating A Banana
Bananas are well-known for their temperature regulating properties. In equatorial countries, people eat bananas to prevent over-heating. Babies are fed with bananas to stay cool in hot periods. It also helps when eating sharp and peppery foods. Bananas soothe the mouth after eating too much red peppers.
Cramps? Bananas Help
Because of the high levels of magnesium in bananas they work wonders against cramps. For example: Pregnant women often have a lack of magnesium, resulting in regular cramps in legs and feet (mostly at night). Eating a banana every day will drastically reduce those cramps.
Counter Seasonal Depressions
Bananas contain trypotophan, a mood lifting amino acid. This is a good help against seasonal depressions. Eating bananas regularly during winter and autumn can lift the spirit and will keep you healthy.
And this quote will help you smile some more:
“On a traffic light green means go and yellow means yield, but on a banana it’s just the opposite. Green means hold on, yellow means go ahead, and red means where the hell did you get that banana at…” – Mitch Hedberg, American Comedian
Combined with regular exercise, bananas can be the missing link in your fitness diet, as they provide you with valuable carbohydrates, proteins and vitamins.
So next time you’re buying fruit, consider going bananas…
